The soap continues: Will Lampard go to Barca (mind you, his wife Elen is from Barcelona). Will Chelsea’s coach Jose Mourinho move to Real Madrid? Are Mourinho and Chelsea owner Abramovich still fighting? Will Abramovich be able to afford Chelsea after his expensive divorce this spring? Will Mourinho get money to buy new players this summer? Or is all this ‘news’ just created by Mourinho in cooperation with the Sun Newspaper in order to boost Chelsea media coverage?

Yesterday some newspapers reported Lampard would have broken off contract negotiations with Chelsea. Today his manager Steven Kutcher denies these statements. Today SunSports reports the following:

BARCELONA will bid £12million for Chelsea’s Frank Lampard today.
SunSport can reveal the Spanish giants plan to make formal contact for the first time about signing Lamps.

Blues officials will reply by insisting the England star is not for sale at any price.

And they will follow up by arranging another meeting with Lampard to discuss a new contract when he returns for pre-season training next week.

Chelsea remain optimistic they will be able to reach agreement over an extension to the two years Lampard has left on his current deal.

Blues hierarchy will continue to reject any bids for Lamps, 28, in order to buy time to find a solution to the stalemate.

But Barca will not be put off and are prepared for a hostile battle to win his signature.

A senior source at the Nou Camp confirmed: “We know the negotiation will be a complex one.

“But coach Frank Rijkaard has made his feelings clear on Lampard and it’s now up to the directors to find a way to sign him.

“We don’t expect it will happen quickly but we have time before the new La Liga season begins and we are prepared to do what is necessary.”

Lampard’s agent Steve Kutner insists there is no rush to find a resolution.

He said: “Frank will join up with Chelsea next week and will be as committed as ever.

“Nothing can get sorted out until he gets back, but there is no rush.” […]
